Q1. Employees are encouraged to take ___ of the new tuition reimbursement program.
答えと解説を見る
正解: A) advantage
'Take advantage of' is a fixed expression meaning 'to make good use of', and 'advantage' is used without an article, in the singular. So 'advantage' is correct. 'Advantageous' is an adjective, 'advantaged' is a past participle, and 'advantages' (plural) breaks the fixed form of the idiom — it's best learned as a whole chunk.
Q2. The revised policy will take ___ at the beginning of next quarter.
答えと解説を見る
正解: B) effect
'Take effect' is a set expression meaning 'to come into force', and the noun 'effect' is correct. 'Affect' is a verb (to influence) — the spelling is easily confused, but the part of speech differs. 'Effective' is an adjective and 'effectively' is an adverb. Idioms built with 'take' — take place, take advantage of, and others — are best learned as whole chunks.
