🎯 文法ジャンル別の解き方
TOEIC Part5「副詞」の解き方と頻出パターン|練習10問つき
副詞の問題は、空所が「動詞・形容詞・別の副詞・文全体」を修飾している位置にあるかを見抜けば、多くが数秒で解けます。意味で選ぶタイプでは、時制や数量と相性のよい副詞(already, recently, approximately など)が狙われます。
解き方のポイント
- be動詞と過去分詞・形容詞の間(is ___ located)は副詞の定位置
- have と過去分詞の間(has ___ completed)、助動詞と動詞の間(will ___ increase)も副詞
- 数字の前の「約」は approximately / nearly / almost
- recently は過去形・現在完了と、currently は現在形・進行形と一緒に使う
- 文頭でカンマが続く位置(___, the meeting was postponed)は文修飾の副詞(Unfortunately など)
ひっかけ注意
- hard(一生懸命)と hardly(ほとんど〜ない)、late(遅く)と lately(最近)は意味が別物
- already は肯定文、yet は否定文・疑問文で使うのが基本
- 形容詞の -ly(friendly, timely)は副詞ではない
例文で確認
| The new branch is conveniently located near the station. | is と located の間 → 副詞 |
| Sales increased by approximately 20 percent. | 数字の前の「約」→ approximately |
| The manager has recently approved the budget. | 現在完了と相性がよい → recently |

Q1. The technician explained the procedure ___ to avoid any confusion.
答えと解説を見る
正解: B) clearly
The blank modifies the verb 'explained', so the adverb 'clearly' is correct, sitting after the object 'the procedure' to describe the manner of the action. 'Clear' is an adjective, 'clarity' is a noun, and 'clarify' is a verb — none of these fit this position.
Q2. The manager asked the team to work more ___ during the busy season.
答えと解説を見る
正解: B) productively
The blank modifies the verb 'work', so the adverb 'productively' is correct. Combined with the preceding 'more', it forms the comparative adverb meaning 'more productively'. 'Productive' is an adjective, 'productivity' is a noun, and 'produce' is a verb. The 'more' right before the blank is also a clue that an adverb comparative is needed.
Q3. Ms. Chen handled the negotiation more ___ than anyone had anticipated.
答えと解説を見る
正解: C) skillfully
The blank modifies the verb 'handled', which calls for an adverb, and the presence of 'than' calls for the comparative. Combined with 'more', 'more skillfully' is correct. 'Skillful' is an adjective, and 'skill'/'skills' are nouns. The 'more' right before the blank is also a clue that an adverb comparative is needed.
Q4. The consultant's recommendations were ___ implemented across all departments.
答えと解説を見る
正解: C) successfully
The blank modifies the passive verb phrase 'were implemented', so the adverb 'successfully' is correct — the slot between a be-verb and a past participle is the adverb's natural home. 'Success' is a noun, 'successful' is an adjective, and 'succeed' is a verb.
Q5. The two departments worked ___ to complete the project ahead of schedule.
答えと解説を見る
正解: B) closely
The blank modifies the verb 'worked', so the adverb 'closely' (in close cooperation) is correct — 'work closely with' is also a set phrase meaning 'to cooperate closely with'. 'Close' as an adverb refers to physical distance (stand close), while cooperative relationships use 'closely'. 'Closer' is the comparative, and 'closeness' is a noun.
Q6. Please review the attached document ___ and let us know your comments.
答えと解説を見る
正解: C) carefully
The blank describes how to 'review the attached document' — modifying a verb calls for an adverb, so 'carefully' is correct. 'Care' is a noun/verb, 'careful' is an adjective that modifies nouns, and 'caring' is a participle/adjective. Since a direct object ('the attached document') sits right before the blank, only an adverb fits after it.
Q7. Sales figures for the third quarter were ___ higher than expected.
答えと解説を見る
正解: C) considerably
The blank modifies 'higher' (a comparative adjective), so the adverb 'considerably' is correct, giving the meaning 'considerably higher'. 'Considerable' is an adjective that modifies nouns, 'consider' is a verb, and 'consideration' is a noun. Other adverbs that intensify a comparative include much, far, and significantly — all sit right before the comparative.
Q8. The company's profits have risen ___ over the past three years.
答えと解説を見る
正解: B) steadily
The blank modifies the verb phrase 'have risen', so the adverb 'steadily' (consistently) is correct. 'Steady' is an adjective that modifies nouns, 'steadiness' is a noun, and 'steadier' is the comparative of the adjective. Right after an intransitive verb, describing the manner is the adverb's job.
Q9. The supervisor asked the team to work ___ to finish before the deadline.
答えと解説を見る
正解: C) efficiently
The blank modifies the verb 'work', so the adverb 'efficiently' is correct. 'Efficient' is an adjective that modifies nouns, and 'efficiency'/'efficiencies' are nouns. Right after an intransitive verb, describing the manner of the action is the adverb's job.
Q10. The machine should be cleaned ___ after each use.
