Since the early 1980s, the small town of Yoro, Honduras, has experienced one of the world's most bizarre weather phenomena: fish rain.

Almost every year between May and July, following a heavy storm, residents find hundreds of small silver fish flopping on the ground—alive.

The event, locally known as "Lluvia de Peces" (Rain of Fish), has become so reliable that the town holds an annual festival to celebrate it.

Scientists who have studied the phenomenon offer several explanations.
