In 1988, a remarkable relationship began at the Cincinnati Zoo.

Five-year-old Tanisha Williams, who had fallen into the gorilla enclosure during a school trip, was approached by a female gorilla named Samantha.

As zoo staff frantically prepared to intervene, something unexpected happened: instead of showing aggression, Samantha gently picked up the unconscious child and cradled her, protecting her from the other gorillas until help arrived.
