Off the coast of Belize in Central America, a perfectly round dark blue circle sits in the middle of a pale turquoise reef.

It is about three hundred meters across and more than one hundred and twenty meters deep.

During the Ice Ages, so much water was locked in ice that the sea was far lower than it is today.

At that time, this place was dry land, and rainwater slowly dissolved a large cave in the limestone.

Eventually the roof of the cave fell in.

When the ice melted and the sea rose again, the hole filled with water.

Divers can still see stone icicles deep inside it, formations that can only grow in air.
