時刻表のある間欠泉

A geyser in Yellowstone National Park erupts so regularly that rangers post the time of the next eruption in advance.
Explorers who observed it in 1870 named it Old Faithful.
Roughly every ninety minutes, it throws boiling water as high as fifty meters into the air.
The interval is not fixed, but it can be estimated from the length of the previous eruption.
A long eruption empties more of the underground chamber, so more time is needed for it to refill and heat up again.
Using this relationship, rangers predict each eruption to within about ten minutes.
The geyser has performed more than a million times since the park was established.
