In southwestern Morocco, goats climb trees.

The argan tree grows almost nowhere else, and in the dry season its fruit is one of the few sources of food available.

The goats balance on branches as high as ten meters above the ground in order to reach it.

They digest the soft outer part of the fruit, but the hard seed inside is too large to pass through them.

For a long time people assumed the seeds were scattered in the animals' droppings, but researchers observed that the goats spit them out while chewing.

A seed dropped far from its parent tree has a better chance of growing.

In this way the goats help to plant the trees that feed them.
