排水管から海へ帰ったタコ
インキー（Inky）の脱走は実際の出来事で、2016年4月にニュージーランド国立水族館（ネイピア）が公表しました。水槽の蓋がわずかに開いていたため、インキーは隙間から抜け出し、床を移動して直径約15cmの排水管に入り、そのまま海へ出たと推定されています。床に残った吸盤の跡が経路の根拠とされました。タコは硬い骨格を持たず、体の中で唯一硬い部位はカラストンビと呼ばれるくちばしであるため、それが通る大きさの隙間なら通過できます。タコの高い問題解決能力と脱走癖は古くから知られており、飼育施設では蓋の固定が標準的な対策とされています。インキーは漁で傷ついたところを保護され数年間飼育されていた個体で、館側は「海に帰った」として捜索を行いませんでした。

In 2016, staff at an aquarium in New Zealand discovered that an octopus called Inky was missing from his tank.
The lid had not been secured completely.
Wet marks on the floor indicated that he had squeezed through the gap, crossed the room, located a narrow drainpipe that discharged into the sea, and escaped down it.
The pipe measured about fifteen centimeters across.
An octopus has no rigid skeleton, so it can pass through any opening large enough for its beak.
Keepers had previously observed that Inky was unusually curious and inclined to investigate his surroundings.
Nobody attempted to recapture him.
