140年建て続けている教会
サグラダ・ファミリア（聖家族贖罪教会）は実在し、1882年にフランシスコ・デ・パウラ・デル・ビリャールの設計で着工しました。翌1883年にアントニ・ガウディが引き継ぎ、設計を根本的に変更しました。ガウディは完成に長い年月がかかることを前提に、二次元の図面ではなく立体の石膏模型を多数制作して意図を伝えようとしました。1926年6月、路面電車にはねられ死去。1936年に始まったスペイン内戦の際、工房が襲撃され模型や図面の多くが破壊・散逸しました。以後の建築家は残存する断片と写真から模型を復元しながら工事を進めています。財源は主に入場料と寄付で、公的補助に依存していません。2010年にローマ教皇によりバシリカとして献堂され、完成目標はガウディ没後100年の2026年とされてきましたが、全体の完了時期はなお流動的です。

Construction of a church in Barcelona commenced in 1882 and is still not complete.
Antoni Gaudi took charge the following year and modified the design entirely, but he was aware that he would never see it finished.
He deliberately left detailed models rather than conventional blueprints, so that others could continue.
He died in 1926 after being struck by a tram, and much of his material was destroyed during the civil war a decade later.
Subsequent architects have had to reconstruct his intentions from photographs and fragments.
The project depends almost entirely on ticket revenue and donations, which is one reason it has advanced so slowly.
