In 2016, a half-marathon race in Alabama had an unexpected participant.
During the warm-up for the Elkmont Half Marathon, a bloodhound named Ludivine wandered away from her owner's yard after being let outside.
Curious and friendly, the dog joined the starting line of runners.
When the race began, Ludivine ran alongside the participants for the entire 13.1 miles.
She occasionally stopped to sniff interesting smells or explore the area but always returned to the race.
Nobody tried to remove her as she seemed to be enjoying herself.
To everyone's surprise, Ludivine finished the race in 7th place with a time of 1 hour and 32 minutes.
She even received a medal at the finish line.
