The discovery of coffee has an interesting legend.

Around the 9th century in Ethiopia, a goat herder named Kaldi noticed his goats becoming unusually energetic after eating berries from a certain tree.

Curious, Kaldi tried the berries himself and felt strangely alert.

He shared his discovery with local monks, who made a drink from the berries to help them stay awake during long hours of prayer.

The knowledge of these energizing berries spread to the Arabian Peninsula, where the world's first coffee cultivation began.

By the 16th century, coffee had reached Europe and was becoming popular despite some controversy.

Today, coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world, after oil.
